What happens once a transfer to a new owner has occurred?

The buyer will need to open new accounts.

There are different types of accounts at the council. The most notable are the rates account and water accounts. The buyer will not receive invoices for some time after registration of transfer. They will need to make provision for these anticipated costs.

On registration of transfer, the conveyancers send a letter to the city council.  This notifies the council that the transfer has taken place.

The conveyancers will inform the council of the date of registration. They will also provide any other relevant information.

The deeds office will also notify the council that the transfer has taken place.
