Three Money-Saving Tips For Moving
For many people, moving is an exciting event – moving from your existing home to a new place which you have chosen.
For most people, moving is a whole new experience. But before you can enjoy those experiences, you have to move your belongings. This can be expensive, time-consuming and stressful.
Fortunately, there are things that will make moving less stressful and less expensive.
Costs are unavoidable, so there are ways of saving your hard-earned money.
Here are the three tips to save money when moving:
1. Take only essentials
Many people are hoarders and accumulate so much stuff over the years. Start off by piling things you don’t need. Create systems such as labelling boxes and making checklists. Put things that relate to different rooms together, e.g. kitchen appliances. Categorise stuff that you want to sell or donate to charity shops.
2. Decide what you can do yourself and what you need help with.
Consider how much time and energy you have. How much stuff you need to move and where your next destination is going to be. Work out the difference between packing yourself and the cost of hiring movers to do the job. Packing yourself will obviously be the cheapest – but is it really worth it? Only you can decide.
3. Find out when is the cheapest time to move.
The cartage/moving business has its seasons just like most other businesses. Movers are often busiest at the beginning and at the end of the month. During mid-weeks and middle of the month, rates are much cheaper. Sometimes you may need a storage facility before you move to your new home. So planning your move is a critical part of the selling process.
