Buying or Selling Property – Legal Questions Part 4
This is part four of our series on legal questions and answers.
Why do I need a conveyancer?
The buyer only becomes the legal owner of a property once the transfer has been registered by the Deeds Office.
In a nutshell, you will need to appoint a specialist lawyer (a conveyancer/transfer attorney) to prepare the documents to lodge with the Deeds Office.
Who appoints the conveyancer?
The seller has the right to choose the conveyancer – they should pick a firm that they can trust to act with professionalism, integrity and speed.
In the next part of this series, we’ll look at the costs involved for the buyer and seller.
